• Triple Berrry Smoothie

Post gym workout, give me a cold smoothie and I’m a happy camper. Add lots of good stuff to it, all the stuff we know we’re supposed to eat but somehow don’t always get around to. Then kick back and sip on your smoothie and enjoy the beautiful day!

I’ve been enjoying morning smoothies for a few years now. There’s my Banana Cocoa Smoothie, and my Chocolate Strawberry Banana Smoothie, and my Raw Green Smoothie. Stick around, I’m bound to come up with a few more combinations.

I’ve been reading a lot about the ORAC scale (Oxygen Radical Absorption Scale – foods with the highest antioxidants that hunt for free radicals) and the ANDI scale (Aggregate Nutrient Density Index). I learned about it from one of my favorite blogs – Happy Healthy Long Life. The author of the blog is a curious and remarkable medical librarian, and she has really influenced my continued path towards health and wholeness. This smoothie recipe of hers has been a staple in my diet since I first discovered it. The cool thing about it is that it’s like a template – you can change it up simply by adding different fruits and vegetables or using nut milk (it’s great with almond milk), depending on your mood, what’s in season, or what you have in your frig. Here’s what I drank this morning:

1 cup Knudsen Morning blend juice
    1/2 cup blueberries
    1/2 cup blackberries
    1/2 cup strawberries
    1 apple, cored
    1 cup baby spinach
    1 carrot
    1 tsp flaxseeds
    2 dates, pitted
    1 tbsp agave syrup

Throw the whole nine yards into a blender – I use the big mama Vitamix. Blend until smooth (betcha never stopped to think about where the word “smoothie” came from??!!). Sip slowly. Enjoy!

This recipe filled the tall glass in my picture plus I put the leftovers in a quart sized canning jar – filled about 3/4 of the jar. I stuck the canning jar in the frig and will sip on it later today.

Can you see any parsley or spinach hiding in my Triple Berry Smoothie? No way. And you can’t really taste it either. Popeye would’ve approved, for sure.

Oh, your smoothies sound wonderful! I'm going to send Bob over to look at this. He's the smoothie maker at our house. He just started a couple of weeks ago, but is doing a good job.

I use spinach in my morning smoothies also. Can't even tell it's there. : )

Been living on the triple berries plus some cherries in my smoothies. Especially love the bonus of spinach. Great recipe!
